Common Questions
Many questions can be answered quickly. Check if your question is covered below.
The app is stuck scanning my photos. What should I do?
Large photo libraries can take several minutes to scan. Make sure the app stays in the foreground during the initial scan. If it's been more than 10 minutes with no progress, try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, restart your iPhone and try again.
My storage didn't free up after compressing/deleting photos. Why?
Deleted photos go to the "Recently Deleted" album in the Photos app and aren't permanently removed for 30 days. To free up space immediately, go to Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted and tap "Delete All." Also, iCloud Photos may take time to sync changes—check Settings → Apple ID → iCloud to see sync status.
Can I restore photos I accidentally deleted?
Yes, deleted photos are kept in the "Recently Deleted" album in the Photos app for 30 days. Go to Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted to find and restore them. After 30 days, they are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Why can't HEVCut access my photos?
HEVCut needs permission to access your photo library. Go to Settings → HEVCut → Photos and select "Full Access." Limited access won't work because the app needs to scan your entire library to find optimization opportunities.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Open HEVCut, go to Settings, and tap "Restore Purchases." Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase. If the restore doesn't work, try signing out and back into the App Store, then try restoring again.
Will compressing photos reduce their quality?
HEVCut uses intelligent compression that removes only invisible data. At normal viewing sizes, you won't see any difference. The compression is designed to be imperceptible—your photos will look the same on your iPhone, when shared, or when printed at typical sizes.
Does HEVCut upload my photos anywhere?
No. All processing happens entirely on your device. Your photos never leave your iPhone. HEVCut doesn't have servers, doesn't collect your photos, and doesn't require an internet connection to work. Your privacy is fully protected.
